
Ambassador Akhilesh Mishra meets IHREC Chief Commissioner Liam Herrick; calls for closer cooperation and joint efforts on human rights
Dublin, September 10, 2025: The Ambassador of India to Ireland, H.E. Shri Akhilesh Mishra, has welcomed the support extended by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) in addressing recent incidents of racist targeting and discrimination against the Indian community in Ireland.
Ambassador Mishra met with the Chief Commissioner of IHREC, Hon’ble Liam Herrick, at the Indian Embassy in Dublin on Tuesday for a wide-ranging discussion on safeguarding the rights and safety of Indian nationals in Ireland.
“We deeply appreciate the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission’s commitment to protecting the dignity and safety of all communities, including the vibrant Indian diaspora in Ireland,” Ambassador Mishra said.
Chief Commissioner Herrick briefed the Ambassador on the institutional measures currently underway to closely monitor and respond to racism-related incidents across workplaces, educational institutions, and public spaces. He assured full support and cooperation to the Indian Embassy and acknowledged the constructive role of the Indian diaspora in Ireland’s economic, technological, healthcare, and cultural growth.
“The Indian community is an integral part of Ireland’s social fabric. We are determined to ensure their safety and equal rights,” Herrick stated.
Ambassador Mishra expressed gratitude for the Commission’s proactive approach and emphasised the importance of fostering closer cooperation between IHREC and India’s National Human Rights Commission. He highlighted the scope for mutual learning through shared experiences and innovative approaches to tackling human rights challenges.
